VENICE DAY 4 / FINAL DAY IN THE PIAZZA SAN MARCO + CAMPANILE DI SAN MARCO

For our final day in Venice we decided to bite the bullet at last and enter the heart of the tourist hive.

The Piazza San Marco.

As the queue for St Mark's Basilica was winding right around four corners, we decided to climb the campanile instead (figuratively speaking.. there is an elevator).

Though the line may have been long and the lift shaft sweaty, the view from the top quite made up for it all.

After this we zoomed back down and joined the mammoth queue for the church. As ladies have to keep their shoulders and knees covered, I was given a lovely orange mesh shawl to drape over my d├ęcolletage. I would have taken a picture, but sadly there were no pictures inside. For this reason, there are also no photos of the interior decor (well worth a google though). Apologies, here are some pigeons instead:

We then wandered back to Piazza San Stefano for lunch, as the food in the main piazza is ludicrously priced (add the Caffe Florion menu to your to-google list... €30 for one drink anybody?).

While we waited for a table to appear, we took a quick detour through a nearby garden.

We then sat down for our last lunch at our favourite place.

Great rag├╣ for me, perfect parma ham pizza for Sam.

Then the time came to go home to pack our bags.

We bid a sad goodbye to our little slice of Italian home. Delicious home. Delicious Italian home. Delicious Pizza home.

Pizza.

I really was going to miss the pizza.

Love,
Steph
